“Having worked exclusively in corporate talent buying and event production for large clients at events across the country for past five years, working with Big Fun Brass Band to bring to life a large, intricate performance that our client concepted has been one of the best, most enjoyable experiences I’ve had in my career.

For their customer conference at the New Orleans convention center, a large 3D design software client of ours, who have very specific and high standards for any outside talent performing at their events, approached us in need of an event-opening performance that reflected the unique culture of New Orleans and was visually catching enough to command a huge event hall with over 6,000 attendees (nearly all visual designers with high standards of detail themselves) in person and broadcast to thousands of others remotely. I’m incredibly glad that I found Big Fun, as Abby and Corey were incredibly responsive and accommodating from the start, working with us to find the right band size for our 60-foot-wide stage, the right additional parade performers to give the performance the feel of a Mardi Gras parade that could engage such a large audience, and other details down to song selection, costuming, and ensuring the performers were diverse and representative of our client’s attendees. Every detail was considered carefully, and Abby really put the time in over the course of two and a half months to make sure that every element of the performance was perfect. Ultimately, we ended up assembling a very large performance group, including a 12-piece brass band and a 14-person cast of revelers, jugglers, stilt walkers, and grand marshals to march into the convention hall and give an energetic performance of “When the Saints Go Marching In” that got the audience engaged and on its feet to kick off the event.

Once the performance details were set after lots of back and forth (which was made possible by all of Abby’s quick responses whenever our client had any questions or new ideas to consider), Abby and Corey were also super helpful with all the pre-event prep with our production team, joining multiple prep calls to discuss exact performer movement/blocking while reviewing renders of the event hall layout and creating a custom technical rider for this unique performance to sound great for a giant room and audience.

When the event rolled around, I felt incredibly at ease knowing that so much thought and preparation had been put into the performance, and Abby, Corey, and their performers all arrived early for both a full dress rehearsal of the performance the day before and then the performance itself the following day. Their musicians and performers were all remarkable, experienced, top-echelon musicians and performers, respectively, and all came incredibly well-dressed, with the band in traditional second line uniforms and the revelers/jugglers/stilt walkers in ornate, handmade costumes. Rehearsal went so smoothly that we were able to end early because my clients and I were so satisfied with the performance, and the show itself on the day-of was a hit with the audience that set a great tone for the remainder of the event.

Every performer and member of the Big Fun team was also incredibly laid-back and worked so well with our production team and event creative director.

From start to finish, even through all the exacting steps of putting together such a detailed performance, it was genuinely a joy and a very fun experience working with Abby and Corey, and I hope to work with them for any future event I can in or around New Orleans!”
